75 years

Seventy Five Years later it is showing again!!
I am going and eating popcorn and drinking soda and candy!!

And yes I will be sobbing...so giant box of tissues please.

Ever since I read the novel back in 1967..and sobbed through the last chapters, I have loved loved this story.

My mother took pity on me and took me to see it in Philadelphia for it's 30th anniversary in 1967. I remember as we left the theater I was determined to write Mr. Gable.  Mom laughed herself silly...she did say if I found his address let her know. He was in Heaven.
SIGH

SO..now I am going to the movies again. To fall in love with Mr. Gable. To enjoy Mammy's common sense.
To cry with Melanie and Scarlett and Mr. O' Hara.

Am I a crazy lady...sure...but it is a tremendous story and fabulous movie.

Also, now I go with a much greater appreciation for the costuming and the
HEIRLOOM styles/sewing of that Civil War period.

[Fun part...at 16 I also had a 19 inch waist..yes I did]

Just sigh...OH Rhett

September 28th and October 1st.
You may see me at  all shows.

"Frankly my dear...I don't give a Damn.."

Family Happenings

Sew...remember the bride and groom in March?
They bought a HOUSE!!
A cute little place in Browns Mills, about 16 miles from our house
in Mount Holly.
Are they happy homeowners?? OF course..
Are they broke?? OF COURSE
Are they dreaming of redos?? Naturally
Are they still newly weds?? YES
Is the family growing? We hope so.

Let's see what else has been happening this summer:
The newly weds hosted Memorial Day which was lovely .
The WHOLE Eveland family was together along with a few
Buccheri members. It was fun watching all the youngsters get along.
We all met Bryan's new squeeze..Morgan and her daughter Kimberly.

June passed into July...I spent the end of June and beginning of July keeping our nephew Tom company while his mom and sister went on a vacation to Denmark. We facetimed with them every evening which was a real modern day connection!!  We even celebrated 4th of July with them via the internet!! It is an amazing world.

Then in mid July we learned that this earlier announcement:

WILL BE A GIRL!!
JJ is happy to be a big brother and his parents are excited that it will be a sister! This Mom mom is sewing up a storm...as you can imagine!!

Now we head into August...what news will come??
Oh there is more...but I am not allowed to say.
I ask anyone who knows and reads here to keep us all in your thoughts and prayers. There have also been some upsets and tough things that have come this way. But those things are settling down and we will discuss them later.

For now...HAPPY SUMMERTIME!!
Soon we will be saying where did the summer go!!

Summer 2014 sewing

Now that we are living in a real house, with a real basement and all of our 'treasures' or 'stuff' or junk is here...I am digging into some of 'to do' boxes. Like this one:
A pink snap box from? 1990??
Inside--fabric, patterns pinned to fabric and cut out, patterns in plastic bags.
My original..'dream' box of christening gowns.

So I sorted them all out:
Two 'big three' patterns, one smocked one plain, and a 'sample' gown from when I had my little shoppe a few years back.

Discovered that all the parts are there, some started [pieces which I have removed for reasons ].
I adjusted and reorganized the smocked gown..I had cut it out wrong...hmm. But the smocking was done and lovely!
So I am started on my self pledge to 'destash, finish, trash' my sewing collection this summer.
So far I am on a good start: skirt attached to new yoke to lining pieces along with ample mini piping applied...but it's time to stop now..the late night sewing is no longer my best work.
[my eyes just complain loudly after 9 pm].
Here is what is done so far:

Not bad for a very well marinated collection of pieces..;-)

I may just finish this so it can go into the county fair. Question is..should i say 'vintage' sewing?? or just 10 year effort?  No matter..it's fun to just stitch things to stitch. How about you??

Memorial Day 2014

Memorial Day

All my life it was the weekend that family arrived for time at the beach.

In that family were WWII veterans including:
Navy
Army
Army Air Corps

My Dad was Air Corps

Two uncles were Navy.
Four uncles Army

Of the Younger generration..no war vets here but:
Two Cousins Army
One cousin Navy--Annapolis Grad no less!!

We always had a really good time, even if it was often cold, damp, rainy weather at the beach. It was still the beginning of summer for us!!

Sometimes they talked about the war events. Most of the time though it was all about the good life we have in this country.

THANK YOU ALL PAST AND PRESENT MILITARY FOR YOUR SERVICE TO AND FOR THIS COUNTRY!

We continue to live and enjoy freedoms and more that others are still fighting for around the globe all because of your service.

God Bless the USA!
God Bless and keep all our active military and veterans all!

Happy Mother's Day 2014

Happy Mother's Day 2014

My mother circa 1943...a gift to her fiance going off to fly in WWII.

Ten years later she brought me home from the hospital.

Thanks Mom...miss you.

Wishing each and everyone a very Blessed Mother's Day. To those not yet moms, or waiting for their day to come, I know you will be over the moon with your little one someday.

To my family...I love you all and love being grandmother too!

Happy Mother's Day 2014.

It's been a busy time!!

As you can see, we have had some excitement in the family!
My oldest daughter married her guy this past Saturday. A beautiful day, sunshine, warmer, no snow, no rain..AMEN

Because it was nice out, they went and played at the County Park.
The bride wore my gown, with a reworkd bodice.. I have been busy!!
I also did the Flower girl dress. More on all the sewing later.

One of my favorite photos of the day. There are many, but this one is just so good.

It's been a long...snowy...cold...first 10 weeks of 2014 that were spent preparing for this wonderful day.
I am still tearing up when looking at all the pictures. But the most tears come when I remember hubby dancing with his baby girl. \

Congratulations Michelle and Ron!! God Bless your new life together!!
