Back this time last year, I polled various sewing folks about the possibility of having a special teacher come to New Jersey. At that time, I had quite the positive response. With that in mind, I went ahead and scheduled some days with the teacher. Simply the first step.
The second step is to pick a 'project' to do. Now the process can get very very frustrating and personal. But forward we march. In the meanwhile...I take another class with this teacher. And there is a project shown at class that is not yet in her portfolio!! THAT IS THE ONE that is chosen. Okay...so far so good.
Turns out that the positive response is now becoming very unsure as they learn of the cost factor involved in teachers who travel etc. And once again, the mind set of the 1960's-80;s sewing folks comes into play,
[Let's be clear here: it's 2016 folks..
sewing today is NOT a money saver,,,it's pricey!]
As is the overall cost of living period.
In the meanwhile, I go searching and secure a 'classroom' for said class. It involves changing the dates of the teacher, but she is agreeable to the change. DONE..,.and at a fantastic savings.
So by the end of November it's settled, we have a teacher, a project, and a place. The 'amazing' response folks...not so much,.
Now..moving forward into December...
well let's just say my focus took a sharp turn away
from sewing classes and other things.
Life goes one,.,mid January and I am back to organizing and getting it done.
And it happened! We had fifteen ladies sign up, The teacher came..we had fun.
[And I never took the pictures I should have...what else is new]
See that lovely lady right in the middle. YES that is Gail Doane and she was in New Jersey teaching her lovely jelly roll jacket and dress project that was the cover feature of Classic Sewing Magazine. [ That's a whole other story folks]
In person, in different jelly rolls, this outfit is absolutely adorable, stunning, fun and more. And the techniques and choices learned by fifteen ladies showed variations that were all equally lovely!! [those are the photos missing now]
You can make some out in the group photos...the number of 'backs' being held.
Unless all the attendees were fibbing..,.they all said they had fun and enjoyed the class. Gail herself said she really enjoyed this session. A good thing, because I sure hope we can get her to come back again....and again....and again....;-)
As for those who want less expensive classes...good luck, No way will you get three days any less than this one, and let's be clear...there was no gain for this person in getting this together...I also paid my way! And will do so again.
THANK YOU GAIL for a terrific class.
Come back soon!!
Thanks to all who attended and helped make it a good time.
My apologies for the tone/attitude of this post
It is not a complaint, just the facts,
In the overall I am happy to have made it happen,
It did show me many truths in the end,
